About CasaLana Bed & Breakfast in Calistoga

CasaLana has a bold Mediterranean architecture with interesting angles throughout the structure. The "tower", which serves as the entryway, has an expansive open ceiling with arched detailing. The Mediterranean influence is evident throughout the entryway with floors of Italian marble and hand-forged wrought-iron railings on the upper level plant balcony and hallway. The lush, green banks of the river setting are visible through the double glass doors, which lead to the kitchen herb garden and the gentle sounds of the garden fountain.

The house was designed and built in 1989 for the Zambutos as their 'dream home". Circumstances forced them to sell the property in 1998. Having already purchased another property where I planned to develop my cooking school, when I first visited the CasaLana property, I was really just looking for a house to use as my private residence. But, after walking around the site, I realized the potential of the property and decided it was the perfect location for my Bed & Breakfast / Cooking School.

In November 1998 after some fairly extensive remodeling, the property was converted from a private residence to a Bed and Breakfast, which I named CasaLana. One of the early projects was a total kitchen renovation that included upgrading the appliances to professional quality equipment. In February 1999, the first Gourmet Retreat cooking class was hosted in the newly renovated kitchen. After completing years of planned improvements, the CasaLana property has emerged with a distinctive character and style that invites guests to relax and enjoy the peacefulness.
