Garden Test

Pick fruit right from the trees in our luscious gardens for an afternoon picnic...

The CasaLana property is just under an acre of land that borders the Napa River. When I first visited the site, I was struck by the potential for creating lush gardens. It has an ideal sun-exposure, which is essential in creating prolific herb and vegetable gardens. The herb and vegetable gardens offer fresh, seasonal ingredients for breakfasts and for use in the cooking classes. Students can just step outside and harvest ingredients for the recipes.

A grove of fruit trees on the property includes several fig and apple trees as well as cherry, plum, peach and pear trees. Intertwined between the trees are raised beds where cutting flowers such as roses, gladiolas, crocus, daffodils, ranunculus and tulips, are grown. Spring is a spectacular array of color with all the various fruit blossoms and flowers. Summer and Fall bring an abundance of produce that finds it way into the kitchen for use in breakfast dishes, cooking classes or preserves. Fruits are harvested at their peak and turned into delicious preserves to savor the flavors of summer long into the winter months.
